BIO

Originally from Chicago, Ken Karlic paints in watercolor on location and in the studio. He paints with a sense of urgency and passion that is more about capturing the essence rather than the specifics of any location. His enthusiasm for painting is contagious, and he enjoys teaching students from beginner to advanced, children to adults. Ken paints scenes from urban cityscapes to rural landscapes, and has won several awards including most recently in 2016–Best of Show in New Hope PA, Best Naval Category in Paint Annapolis and Honorable Mention in Buck’s County Plein Air. Ken began to participate in juried plein-air painting competitions in 2010, and continues to paint in approximately four juried plein-air rolex deepsea replica events within the Mid-Atlantic.

Ken is represented by  McBride Gallery in Annapolis MD, Y:ART in Baltimore MD and RIS Gallery in Stone Harbor, NJ. In 2017 he’ll have a one person show in Maryland Hall for Creative Arts in Annapolis, and a two person show in Red Raven Art Company in Lancaster PA.

Ken Karlic studied architecture, painting and graphic design at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, and he received a BFA in graphic design in 1986. Ken is an award-winning graphic designer and founding partner of Splice Design Group located in Sparks, Maryland.
